Style Guide

This is your photoshoot! Whatever makes you the most comfortable is your best option. Scroll through to find some tips and inspiration photos to help guide you as you plan your outfits.

Neutrals & Soft Tones

Neutral or earthy colors like creams, taupes, dusty blues, blushes, and sage photograph beautifully and keep the focus on you, not your clothing.

Avoid Strong Patterns & Logos

Bold prints, logos, and graphics can be distracting in photos. Instead, opt for subtle textures like knits or linen for added depth. Soft prints are also a good option.

Accessories

Large jewelry can compete for attention in photos and might need constant adjustment. Stick to minimal, timeless pieces.

1 / 9

Comfortable

Pieces

Choose clothing that you feel comfortable and confident in. Avoid outfits that you’ll need to tug or adjust constantly.

1 / 9

Coordinated

Layering

Subtle, coordinated layers like scarves, vests, or textured fabrics (like lace, denim, or cable knits) can add depth and dimension to your photos without being bulky or distracting. Just avoid anything that might need constant adjusting and skip the big, bulky clothing items.

Coordinate...

But Don't Match

For group sessions, select a cohesive color palette rather than matching outfits. This creates a polished yet natural look.

1 / 9

Flattering

Fits

Wear clothing that fits well and flatters your body shape. Avoid anything too tight or too loose, as both can look unflattering in photos. Tailored pieces tend to photograph best.

Your Closet First

Before rushing out to buy new outfits, take a look at what you already own. You might find the perfect pieces tucked away in your wardrobe! Focus on timeless, neutral options or textured fabrics that complement your session’s style. Adding a new accessory or layering piece can elevate an outfit you already love without breaking the bank.

Locations

Busy but beautiful

Katheryn Albertson Park

Known for its stunning colors, manicured landscapes, charming pathways, bridges, and serene water features, this park is one of the most sought-after photoshoot locations in the valley. Its expansive layout offers plenty of variety, but parking can be a challenge from March through November. I recommend parking across the street at Ann Morrison Park for easier access.

Boise Foothills

Ideal for natural, earthy vibes, complete with sweeping mountain views and golden grasses. Some of my favorite locations include Military Reserve, Hull's Gulch (upper & lower), and Camel's Back Park. While the trails can get busy during mountain biking and hiking season, the stunning scenery makes it absolutely worth it!

Esther Simplot Park

Wetlands, boardwalk, ponds and a bridge are just a few of the diverse areas around this park. This park has readily available parking and is right in the heart of Boise.

Eagle River

This is one of my favorite locations in the spring, summer and fall. The colors are beautiful, there is plenty of space to spread out, and the river makes for the BEST splashing photos.

great for kids

Reid Merrill Park

Reid Miller Park is conveniently located near the Eagle Greenbelt and is perfect for families with kids! The play structure serves as a great post-photoshoot reward, keeping little ones motivated. With lush greenery and a charming bridge, this spot offers beautiful scenery without requiring too much walking. The only drawback? Mosquitoes. Unfortunately, they’re always out in full force here, so don’t forget the bug spray—it’s an absolute must!

wide open spaces

Eagle Island State Park

Eagle Island State Park features open fields, tall trees, and scenic river views, making it a versatile and picturesque spot for photos. Its natural charm and spacious layout are perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking for a relaxed outdoor vibe. Please note that there is an entry fee to the park, so plan ahead for your session. Also- be ready to get your steps in!

Interactions

Instead of focusing on the camera, I will lead you through interactive moments! Laugh, play, or share a quiet moment to create candid, emotional images. Snuggle close, hold hands, or give your child a piggyback ride. These small actions help create connection. If traditional posing is more your style, we can do that too. I promise to give you a lot of variety and help make you feel at ease.

Walking hand-in-hand, spinning your child around, or swaying in place can make photos feel dynamic and alive.

Movement adds a playful, story-like element to your gallery.

Newborn

Swipe for 3 helpful tips for a successful newborn photoshoot:

1 / 4

keep it cozy

Warm the House

Keep the house a few degrees warmer than usual to ensure your baby feels cozy and calm, especially if they’ll be undressed for any photos. A warm environment helps keep newborns sleepy and comfortable for those precious poses.

Soothing Sounds

Playing white noise or soothing sounds can mimic the calming environment of the womb. This helps settle your baby and keeps the session peaceful and relaxed.

Taking Breaks

Newborn sessions are intentionally extended to allow plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and snuggles. These breaks ensure your baby is content throughout the session, allowing us to capture beautiful, stress-free moments.

Kids

Little ones can easily pick up on our stress, so staying relaxed is key! I’ll guide the session in a fun way to help keep kids engaged. If your child has a tough time—don’t worry at all! As a parent myself, I completely understand that it’s a normal part of their development. We’ll roll with it and embrace the chaos! This often leads to the most genuine and heartwarming photos. It can also help to bring clean snacks and a drink for quick breaks if needed.

FAQ

What if the weather is bad?

No worries at all! If you’ve scheduled an outdoor session and the weather isn’t cooperating, we’ll work together to reschedule. I always keep an eye on the forecast, and if it’s looking rainy, windy, or just not ideal for photos, we’ll find a new time that works for us both. Your comfort and the quality of your photos are top priorities, so we’ll make sure it’s a perfect day for your session!

How many pictures will we receive?

For most sessions, you can expect to receive 25–50+ beautifully edited images (around 10 for mini sessions), depending on the type of shoot. Each photo is thoughtfully edited to look its absolute best before it reaches your gallery.

Here’s the deal—I don’t believe in gatekeeping great photos. You paid for them, and I’ll make sure you get all the best keepers.

How long will it take to receive my photos?

I know you’ll be excited to see your images! You can expect to receive your fully edited photos within 14 business days after your session (often sooner). I take great care in editing each image to ensure it looks just right, so I appreciate your patience during that time. You’ll be able to view, share, and download your photos from an online gallery when they’re ready!

How should we dress for our family session?

Great question! For a family session, I always recommend coordinating outfits without being too "matchy." Soft, neutral tones like creams, blushes, and light blues work beautifully. Avoid strong patterns. Comfort is key, so make sure everyone feels good in what they’re wearing, especially the little ones! If you want help picking out outfits, I’m happy to provide some style tips or help brainstorm ideas. Be sure to check out my "Session Prep Guide" for more details.

When should I book a newborn session?

I suggest that you contact me 1-2 months before baby's arrival. Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first 4 weeks of life when your baby is still sleepy and can easily be posed (the earlier the better). This time frame also captures all those tiny details like little toes and soft expressions. It’s also a great opportunity to take photos of your newborn with you as parents, so we can capture the full magic of this special time.

Can I bring my pet to the session?

Of course! Your pets are part of your family, and they’re always welcome in your session. Just let me know ahead of time, so we can plan for their inclusion and ensure we create the best environment for everyone.

Where will my session take place?

Sessions can take place at a location that best fits your style. For family sessions, many people choose their home for a cozy, intimate feel, or we can go outdoors to a park, the foothills, a flower farm or any other scenic location you love. For newborn sessions, I typically recommend doing them in your home so we can capture the beauty and comfort of your space. If you have any location ideas in mind, I’m happy to help make it happen! I offer complementary travel within 20 miles of Boise (Bogus Basin included). Please see my "Session Prep Guide" for location ideas.

Do you travel for sessions?

Yes, I absolutely love to travel for sessions! Whether you’re based nearby or a bit farther away, I’m happy to accommodate. For locations within 20 miles of the Boise area, there’s no additional travel fee. For locations outside of that range, I charge a small travel fee to cover transportation costs. We can discuss details and fees when booking, so you’ll know exactly what to expect!

-Local (within 20 miles): Free
-Additional 20-50 miles: $1 per mile
-Destination/Out-of-state: Customized quote including airfare, lodging, and transportation

Do you offer prints or products?

Yes, I offer a wide variety of prints and products to bring your photos to life! From beautifully framed prints to albums and canvases, I have plenty of options for turning your images into lasting keepsakes. If you’re interested, I can help you select the perfect products for your home or as gifts. Just let me know what you're looking for, and we’ll create something beautiful together!
